How your support helps
Helping fire departments recruit volunteers
About two-thirds of U.S. firefighters are volunteers (NFPA, U.S. Fire Department Profile, 2020), and many rural and volunteer fire departments have no budget for recruitment software or a marketing agency.
FireDepartment.net gives every department a free page, a built-in online volunteer application that sends each application straight to the department's recruiter, and a place in front of people looking to volunteer, at no cost to the department.
Helping the community find public safety information
FireDepartment.net helps residents find their local fire department and nearest fire station, with contact information checked against public sources and dated, fire danger levels, and ways to volunteer.
It covers hundreds of fire departments in Oregon and Washington, with more states being added.
Why we ask for support
Keeping a fast, secure, clutter-free directory, and sending volunteer applications to hundreds of fire departments, takes ongoing work and money:
- Server hosting that keeps the site fast and online.
- AI tools used to research and check fire department information against official sources.
- Form tools that send volunteer applications and listing updates to the right people.
- Hardware: the computers and equipment used to build and run the site.
- Staff time to keep listings up to date, help fire departments sign up and manage their pages, let more fire departments know the service exists, and share volunteer opportunities with the public.
Every contribution goes toward keeping this running and free for the fire service.
1-click checkout via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit/debit card.
Note for supporters: Contributions go directly toward server hosting, software maintenance and running the site. Your statement will show FIREDEPARTMENT.NET, and an itemized receipt is emailed to you after checkout. Because FireDepartment.net is an independent web service, not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, contributions are not tax deductible as charitable gifts.
Do I get anything for it?
Nothing for yourself: it does not change any listing, and it does not buy a listing, a sponsorship or a place in search results. What it does is help local fire departments, many of which don't have the money or the technical help to build tools like these on their own.
Want to give to your local fire department instead?
Many fire departments, especially volunteer departments, accept donations directly, and some have a volunteer firefighters' association or auxiliary that raises money for equipment. Find your fire department and contact it to ask how to give. You can also volunteer, which many rural departments need even more than money.
