Volunteer applications

Applications are collected with Jotform, a form service. The details you enter go to the participating fire department you apply to, and FireDepartment.net keeps a copy to help departments follow up with applicants and schedule interviews and training. Jotform's own privacy policy also applies to information you enter in its forms, and Jotform may use cookies when its form loads.

Messages to volunteer recruiters

When you send a volunteer application or use "Offer Help", it goes to the department's volunteer recruiter. We keep a copy and count messages and applications to report on how many people want to volunteer. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Updates to fire department listings

The forms for updating a listing (contact information and photos, the fire chief, the logo, statistics and community resources, fire equipment, and missing fire stations or departments) ask for your name, email and phone, and how you are related to the fire department. We use them only to confirm the update, and we may call the fire department to confirm it. They are never shown on the site. Photos you send may be shown on the department's listing.

Analytics and cookies

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives information such as the pages you visit, the site that sent you, your browser and device, and your approximate location. It does not receive what you type into volunteer applications or messages, which are in Jotform's forms. We have turned off Google's advertising features for this site, and the site shows no ads. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can block analytics in your browser's privacy settings or with Google's opt-out add-on.

The nearest fire station search sends the address, city or ZIP code you type to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder or to Photon (an OpenStreetMap search run by Komoot) to find it on the map, unless it is a city or ZIP code your browser finds in our own list, and loads the map from OpenFreeMap. If you choose Use my current location, your browser asks first, and your location is used in your browser only. We do not store what you search for.

Forms load from Jotform only when you choose to open one.
