Oregon Department of Forestry Fire Protection Program
Also known as: ODF
The Oregon Department of Forestry's Fire Protection Program, which calls itself Oregon's largest fire department. It protects 16 million acres of forest, mostly private working forests plus some state and BLM lands, and aims to put out fires quickly at the smallest possible size.
For fire departments
- Offers Volunteer Fire Capacity grants, federally funded through the USDA Forest Service, to help rural fire agencies meet firefighting and emergency response needs (2026 applications ran March 6–April 17, 2026).
For the community
- Declares fire season locally and sets public fire restrictions on campfires, debris burning, off-road driving, chainsaws, fireworks and mowing dry grass.
- Shares burning rules through the Before You Burn check-in system and posts a public fire restrictions map.
- Links to wildfire preparation tools such as the Oregon Wildfire Risk Explorer, Firewise USA information and fire-resistant plant guides.
